Some of you may be suffering from a "go slow" from the machines. Currently the virtual machines are given a priority between 10 and 20, and this is changed dynamically depending on CPU usage. It would appear that this is too strict an approach, leaving users stuck on a low priority (nice level) which appears to stop them ever getting CPU time. I have amended the algorithm to a range from 10-13, and made it much easier to regain a high priority. This change will go in tomorrow during a quiet period. Its a bit "tweaky", so we will just have to see what impact is has.
Another issue is that other users can launch network probes, and if they do so while you are logging your firewall packets, this can result in that machine (and not just your virtual machine) going slowly. This is not as easy to fix, but it is easy to detect and I can always bar those people from the site.
