chmod -R XXX *

If an idiot (lets just say a client) were to log in as root and type:

chmod -R 777 *

(making all directories and files on the entire server rwx|rwx|rwx)

Is there an easy way in this all-singing-all-dancing operating system to revert it?


Of course, this is just a theoretical question! None of my clients are that stupid. *cough*

You'd need to remove those commands from users permissions who you don't want using those commands (so they can't execute them) = basic security practice!

I forget the exact syntax (without going looking for it), but we did that in 2nd year on SUSE GUI also.
