Tutorial 7: Essential Unix Commands, question 11

I looked at a previous post for help with this question. I entered the following command below:
"^m.* \(....\) .* \1"
Below is what it yielded.

Fedora release 15 (Lovelock)
Kernel 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64 on an x86_64 (0)
login: demo
Password:
Login incorrect

login: root

Last login: Wed Feb 20 07:20:13 from hub1-gw
[root@host-7-81 ~]# "^m.* \(....\) .* \1"
bash: ^m.*: command not found...
Failed to search for file: Invalid search containing '*'
[root@host-7-81 ~]#

What am I entering wrong?

There is no command with the regular expression...
This is a question best solved with grep, so

Code: Select all

grep -E 'THEEXPRESSION' THEFILE
G.

i have done several different commands even from the dir /home using command: cp /etc/php.ini >> /home/demo/work/misc having create the misc file and still getting the same response as the command above. this leads me to believe i am missing a file somewhere. I have spent hours on this trying to figure it out and any sort of direction would be great.
