Linux Essentials tutotial Essential Q11 word puzzle 2

Post by medinita3586 » Sat Apr 04, 2015 7:39 pm

I guess this is an odd but challenging problem that you posted here but again I am challenging myself to see how far I can go and gave it a try. So I typed the following command: grep '*minglingl' /usr/share/dict/linux.word and obtained the following output:

jinglingly
minglingly
tinglingly

That's 3 words in total but when I click on the "check" button, I get a "failed" result.

Any suggestions?

Thats just the example. The question asks you to look for words starting with an m with ANY four characters repeated twice.
You need a complex regular expression for this.
It is very tough and my students often miss the question out.

Okay, I see what you mean by that being just an example which tells me that the search does not precisely refer to the "inglingl" string but to other, any, word or string containing that same pattern. I would love to just pass on the question without bothering even trying to solve it, but no, it is not the time for me to quit or to skip any challenging question or quiz ... not anymore.

I must unravel the mystery.
