I am performing a disaster recovery exercise this week...
Basically I am rebuilding the main server on new hardware, but at the same time documenting the procedure so that it can be rebuilt quickly next time.
I am completing the last few backup actions right now.
On Thursday/Friday the system is "at risk" as I swap the new and old server over.
I will make sure the databases and logs are in sync, then reactivate the site.
Hopefully it will be down only for an hour or two.
I will bring it up and run some tests after that to make sure everything is ok.
As a result I will be able to rebuild the now old hardware and use that as a hot standby and development server.
I am also using this as an opportunity to update perl, php, the forums, oracle, the kernel, the fedora version (moving to 10), and all associated packages. Its also a good chance to tidy up my disk structures...
The new server is RAID 10... and also quad dual core with plenty of memory. Should make a difference when I start offering a GUI interface using http connect (very soon).
Gordon.

Re: Updates feb 2009
New server is up and running.
Its a long list of yum packages and Perl modules to get the thing running after a reinstall!
Everything seems to be working normally...
I have also updated phpbb from 2.x to 3.x. Again looks like there is a load of things to take onboard...
However, let me know if I missed anything.
