DNS resolving problems

Post by drgrussell » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:44 pm

You may have found this weekend that this site appeared to be down. In fact it was up, but the DNS servers which translate the domain "linuxzoo.net" into an IP was down. Effectively this left the site unreachable, unless you were lucky enough to have an ISP which had my DNS information in their local cache.

I am monitoring the situation, and may move the DNS information to a paid for system (rather than the free one I get from my domain registration company). I am considering dnsmadeeasy, which seems like a good value and professional service. We already moved sqlzoo, xmlzoo, and progzoo over to it, and it seems to work well.

While I am plugging companies, I can also recommend easydns for DNS. I have used easydns for many years and they are very reliable.

Hopefully everything will be back to normal by tomorrow.
