Re: Linux Essentials tutotial 11 word puzzle 2

Thats just the example. The question asks you to look for words starting with an m with ANY four characters repeated twice.
You need a complex regular expression for this.
It is very tough and my students often miss the question out.

Re: Linux essentials tutorial question #10

If the file /usr/share/dict/words is empty you need to boot with a fresh image as you must have damaged the file somehow.

Re: Tutorial # 3 - Question 3: Duplicate thismonth

The question asked you to copy the file, but you "mv" the file instead.

Keep one browser window open in linuxzoo showing the control panel at all times, even when in the forums.

Re: Tutorial 5 q15 Need help

The question was originally written for units in blocks.
So -12k is -24. Less than or equal to is thus -25.
Try "-size -25"
But I think you are using >, and you should use cp in the exec.

Re: Tutorial 2 Question 3

"cp" takes 2 parameters, a source and a destination.
To copy /etc/group to the current directory, which I guess you are trying to do, you can use "." as the second parameter.
cp /etc/group .

But to copy it directly into works/misc while in the demo directory do
cp /etc/group works/misc

Re: Tutorial 5 q15 Need help

you have 2 different "-size" parameters in each find.
Personally I would do "-size -12k".
Additionally make sure you empty the smallc directory each time you try something new.

Re: Need help on Tutorial 5, Question 9

As I said, forget the second grep.
You are making it too complex. No need to check for it being a file or directory. Later on we worry about that, but for now just stick with
ls -l /etc | grep 'Aug' > s6

Best of luck.

Re: Terminal not working

There are no reported issues. I have about 80 students on this every week without incident, plus many other free users from interesting countries, and some of them are far far away... When you say "terminal" what do you mean. I strongly recommend using putty and using that to connect to linuxzoo.net...

Re: Need help on Tutorial 5, Question 9

Could be any number of reasons, such as the columns being slightly more spaced out, or even the inclusion of a hidden file you have not spotted. Remember the check buttons do look for an exact match generally to what I think you should be doing at that stage, so where you include extra flags which m...

Re: On the topic of soft links creation

If your link is /home/demo/work/programs/mylink, and you add your "relative" link to that, then this will point to /home/demo/work/programs/home/demo/thismonth In short, the link is appended to the location of the link when you use relative linking. In fact you need to go up the tree two levels from...
